Make the Glue for Sticky Notes

While you can't make the exact same glue that you find on sticky notes, you can use a few different adhesive products as replacements on homemade sticky notes.

The glue used on sticky notes is a special polymer developed by the 3M corporation. It is a very unique light adhesive that is impossible to reproduce from simple household items. The closest approximate alternatives for this special adhesive are the following.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Make Homemade paper glue:

    6 tbsp. water
    2 env. plain gelatin
    2 tbsp. white vinegar
    2 tsp. glycerin

Boil water in a saucepan then remove from heat and add gelatin, vinegar, and glycerin. Stir with a metal spoon until all items are thoroughly mixed together.

Pour into a tightly lidded plastic jar, and allow mixture to cool before using.

This glue is stronger than sticky note glue, but less messy than homemade glue paste. Apply a light amount to the top back edge of a homemade sticky note and adhere to a surface.

  2. Step 2

    Purchase a glue stick:

Glue sticks can be purchased in craft stores, drug stores, office supply stores, and most places where stationary is sold.

Glue sticks have a similar adhesive strength as sticky note adhesive. They are convenient and less messy than homemade glues.

To use, simply make a single swipe across the top back edge of a homemade sticky note and adhere to a surface.

  3. Step 3

Purchase Wackytac Liquid Sticky Note Adhesive:

Wackytac Liquid Sticky Note Adhesive is basically a fairly accurate imitation of the adhesive commonly found on sticky notes, sold in a convenient liquid form. This item is difficult to find, crafts stores and the internet are the best places to look for this product.
