So you finally made it into the competition. You're a little nervous yet excited that you got the opportunity of a lifetime to show what you are made of. But the only thing you dread a bit is how your performance will come out and wonder if you remain consistently good each week. Take notes on how to create a loyal fan base that will send you all the way to the finale!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Stay original. Don't be a cookie-cutter and have the same singing style as Beyonce or a whole get-up as Justin Timberlake. A few contestants in the past has pay the price for performing exactly as an established singer and got the axe quickly.
Step2
Show some personality. Although you may sing like an angel, it doesn’t stop there. If you want to make it week after the week on the show, be a little entertaining. No one wants to see a bore on stage because simply just singing isn't good enough. You want to command the stage and the crowd so every single week they can't wait for your next performance.
Step3
Don't become a one-trick pony. You may have found your what works good for you. Great! But it doesn't hurt a little to surprise your fans or viewers every once in a while by doing some silly little dance on a upbeat song or put a different spin on the song you're singing instead having that same monotone voice. Keep your performance fresh or else you may find yourself losing fans.
Step4
Watch what you are saying. Let's take the example of Mandisa of season five. A beautiful girl with a powerful voice and arguably one of the best female singers in the competition in 2006. Unfortunately she made a comment in her song intro that involves the word 'lifestyle' that were taken out of context and many began to question her character. The following week, she gets eliminated. So whatever you do, please don't pull a 'Mandisa' and think before you speak--even if you don't mean any harm. You won't know if there is a fan that is offended
Step5
Make sure you play things cool-- your behavior. As time wears on many people will have a 'worn out' look on their face after staying busy with rehearsing, etc. Unfortunately, viewers at home can mistake your expression as a bad attitude when you could have a bad day. Also if you're the type is full of quirkiness, tone it down a bit. It might have been cute for a couple of weeks but slowly as time wears on, your mannerism can become downright annoying.
