Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Know what you're looking for, or better yet just looking for new toys
Step1
I'm going to use the example of buying a laptop for this hypothetical situation.
You may want to get an idea of what is out on the market at the time by looking at laptops online and getting a general price range for a new item that is on the market.
Step2
Head down to you local laptop retailer (Best Buy, Comp USA or whatever is local to you) and ask some one to show you some "OPEN BOX ITEMS". These are items that have been returned and are without defect, the original purchaser just didn't want. (Defected products go back to the distributor) Warranty is still available on open items.
Step3
Open items come and go, so you may want to check a few stores. Sometimes they are on the self and marked with a discount, or have an special spot in the store.
Step4
After you have selected the laptop you like, ask if the reason is known for the return. Most of the time nothing is wrong with the item, the customer just wanted something different.
Step5
Because this is an open item, and no money can be made for the retailer, feel free to ask if the manager will come down a little in price so you can buy that printer or whatever you need. You'd be surprised!!
Step6
If you are buying a computer, before you check out, have the retailer restore it back to factory settings.

on 5/2/2008 I usually check www.ambiedeals.com first. They list some really great prices on electronic. I've bought some at such good prices that I was able to turn around and sell it on ebay for more!
