So you want to plan a TV party? You have a favorite TV show that you and your friends love and you would like to invite them over for a fun-filled night with chatter that would end the moment the commercials do. Well, here are a few simple tips to get you started.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Friends
  • Television (Cable if necessary)
  • Snacks
  • Drinks
  • Chairs/Couch/Beanbags

Step1
Clean up.

For god's sake, there's nothing more terrifying to a guest stepping into your humble abode than dust bunnies and empty boxes lying around. Get rid of the junk. Think Zen. Think Utopia. Think Clean!
Step2
Situate the TV.

Yes, you might not think this is important, but it is crucial. You can't have everyone huddle around a 14 inch television in the kitchen. This is no bake-off. Make sure you have a sizable set - 32 inches should do nicely. Make sure it's in the corner or the longer end of the room so that the audience do not have to crane their necks from watching at an awkward angle.
Step3
Invest in quality snacks.

Yes, we know most snacks offer no nutritional value. Empty calories. So stay away from fast-food, baked goods, or potato chips. Go with Sun Chips, or a veggie dip medley. Make sure there's something for everyone - you never know when a vegan might show up at your party!
Step4
Have plenty of sitting room.

Yes, since everyone will be watching television, this is crucial. If you don't have a couch big enough, then invest in some floor pillows, or beanbags. Or a nice rug that your guests could lie down on. If all else fails, try the 'laptop' approach - advise your guests that they could sit on each other's laps for fun!
Step5
Have a discussion afterwards.

Once the show is done, have a brief discussion, pending it's not too late. Make sure everyone got some enjoyment out of the evening, and get their opinion on what needs fixing and what was great. You should always listen to the critics, for if they respect you enough to be there, they'll want to be there again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure everyone is comfortable.
  • Don't hesitate in making drinks for your guests.
  • Decide on a show everyone is interested in.
  • There will always be someone who's not too happy with your choice of show, so tell them that next week will be different.
  • Don't let your guests get too comfortable! They might just want to crash the night!
