Learn the best ways to promote your eHow articles, helping you achieve more views, and potentially better ratings.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The very first and most important step is to write a useful article. Sure, there's always something for everyone, but analyzing how big an audience any given topic has is crucial to an article's success. Consider certain subjects for the right time, such as Halloween, as well as any upcoming holiday season.

  2. Step 2

The second step is extremely important, so I hope people can collaborate. RATE eHOW's ARTICLES. If you liked something you read, it only takes a second to rate it. I noticed people often do not bother to do so. Trust me, a favor can be a two-way street. Eventually, people can rate YOUR useful topics, and therefore make your articles move up in rankings.

  3. Step 3

Once you have your audience figured out, go for that extra mile. Create an e-mail signature that links to all of your published articles. If you're one who sends multiple e-mails every day, you're in luck. For example, this is a direct link to all of my available topics; I suggest you do the same:

    My articles:

  4. Step 4

Join websites such as http://stumbleupon.com. Here you can post anything for the world to see; This site is about discovering OTHER websites of your tastes. By the way, this source is highly popular, attracting over 3, 500,000 users so far. Go ahead, send the world those bright articles you've written.

  5. Step 5

Another popular site you can join is http://www.digg.com. Think of this as a user-supported source mainly focused on anything hip, such as current events and technology. If you believe your articles truly stand out, go on and impress your fellow readers. They're waiting for this.

  6. Step 6

Who would forget about http://www.myspace.com? With over 100 million users, it is by far one of the best places to promote yourself... or your articles. If you're familiar with the site, you'd know you can post "bulletins", or news, that your friends/network can read. Post an "article of the day" every single day, and you'll have people hooked on these in no time. After all, you ARE giving them something fun to read.

  7. Step 7

Join other websites that allow you to publish your work. A great site could be http://www.thisisby.us. This website allows users to write stories on just about anything: from fact to fiction, to general advise. Let the audience know you exist; post an article or two, and link them back to your original work here at eHow.

  8. Step 8

If you have a blog, use it wisely. Create an "educational" section and implement it as part of your page. Eventually you'll have other bloggers collaborating here, and this could be your chance to post a new How-to article every day.

Tips & Warnings
  • When writing, include as much variety as possible; you want your articles to appeal to a broad audience.
  • Leave the best articles for the right time. More people will read about Christmas trees around December rather than July.
  • Remain unique. Try to avoid topics that have already been written and/or overly hyped.

on 6/27/2009 I clicked on your thisisby.us link and here's what I found:

"thisisby.us has discontinued operation as of February 1 2009.

thisisby.us has thrived as a writing community since its launch in the Spring of 2006. We have seen over 50,000 posts by over 15,000 different writers, numerous (self-organized) meet-ups around the country, and dozens of features on some of the Internet's most popular websites.

Sadly, thisisby.us could not be economically sustained. Though the site attracted a base of dedicated writers, the advertising market that caters to writers is neither large nor fast-growing; even given alternative business models, we could not afford the maintenance and labor required to sustain TIBU."

Too bad they couldn't make a go of it.
