Things You'll Need:
- Internet connection
-
Step 1
The best place to start searching for a gay or lesbian friendly doctor is by asking for referrals from friends who might know someone.
-
Step 2
The next place to search is at your local gay and lesbian center. Oftentimes they will put together a list of health resources for the gay and lesbian community.
-
Step 3
You can search the website GLMA (Gay and Lesbian Medical Association) for a healthcare provider. Go to their website www.glma.org and click on find a provider. Enter your zipcode or city and state. There are some listed here but not many.
-
Step 4
Another avenue which requires a little more research is to find out who is conducting research about gay and lesbian health issues and seek out the researchers. These researchers are often located at large universities, so if you live in a small city or rural area, you are less likely to find a physician this way.
-
Step 5
If worse comes to worse, you can always call around to physicians in your area and ask them if they are knowledgable about gay and lesbian health issues, or gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans friendly. If your local hospital has a Women's Health Center, this might be another space to check out. If your local hospital has an HIV center or specialist they might be able to help steer you toward a helpful provider.

on 10/17/2007 What a great article, and a great resource! Another option is to ask your dentist, or any doctor you see for specialty purposes for a referral.
