Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Your Old and/or Used Cellular Phone
  • eBay Seller Account
  • Some knowledge of how to sell "stuff" on eBay

Step1
Before you do anything, discontinue your cellular service and make sure your bill is paid! Noone wants to buy a used cell phone they can't use or can't get service for.
Step2
Erase Your Cell Phone Data Erase all of your personal cellular phone data. If you don't know how to do this, ReCellular.com has a free Data Eraser on their web site.
Step3
Unlock Your Cell Phone If your cell phone has a personal or manufacturer lock code - UNLOCK it. If your phone requires a lock code, set it to "0000" and make sure you send the buyer a note with this information when you sell your phone.
Step4
Log In To eBay Log in to your eBay Seller Account, fill out and complete your listing.

First, you'll need to set your item description TITLE. When selling a used cell phone, make sure you include the following information in the TITLE:
1) Manufacturer (Motorola, Nextel, Nokia, Samsung, Audiovox)
2) Model Number (i730, i530, 6200, PM-8200)
3) Carrier or Service Provider (TMobile, Cingular, Nextel)
4) Network (TDMA, CDMA, IDEN, GSM)

Title 1 Example:
LG VX6000 Verizon CDMA Used Cell Phone with Accessories

Title 2 Example:
NOKIA 3390 TMobile GSM Used Cell Phone Great Condition

Title 3 Example:
MOTOROLA V180 Cingular GSM Used Cell Phone
Step5
Sample Listing and Description Next, in your DESCRIPTION, be sure to include the following details:

1) Include your Title.

2) Explain, in detail, the physical condition! Very important! Explain if there are a few light scratches, cracks, signs of wear, etc... Providing as many details as possible will help buyers to know exactly what they're getting.

3) Indicate whether your cell phone is locked to a specific carrier or not. If you don't know, indicate your last service carrier, such as; Sprint, Cingular, Nextel, etc...

4) Include a photo of your cell phone and the accessories that you're including. Buyers will pay more if you include chargers, user guides, belt clips, etc.. Be sure to also list these items in your description.

5) Decide if you want to use a Fixed Price or an Auction. If you set a reserve, remember, don't make it too high - it will attract less bidders.

6) Don't forget to set your shipping settings or attach a flat fee for shipping.
Step6
Last - submit it, sell it and collect your cash!

Tips & Warnings

  • Do a search on eBay for COMPLETED LISTING for your phone's manufacturer and model number. This will give you a great idea of how much you can ask and/or expect to earn from your used cell phone.
  • Always try to include a photo of your used cell phone. Most people want to see what they're buying.
  • If you are new to eBay and don't want to hassle with selling your own cell phone, take advantage of an eBay Trading Assistant. They'll sell your cell phone for you and you'll only have to pay them a small commission for doing so.
