These simple directions on how to Cut the Nails on a dog will save you money.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large toe Nail clippers or Dog nail clippers depending on size of pet
  • Possibly a partner
  • Collar or harness
  1. Step 1

Hold dog Close to body. With the arm that is holding the Dog, slowly slip your hand down. Hold the paw firmly and use index finger to push the center of the paw. This will cause the nail to push forward.

  2. Step 2

Cut the nail where it begins to loop over. See my picture to see nail profile.

  3. Step 3

Large toe nail clippers work best for Small Dogs and Dog nail clippers will easily cut larger Dogs.

Tips & Warnings
  • A partner can be a great help as long as they do not agitate the Dog.
  • Only cut a little at a time.
  • White (Clear) nails are the easiest to cut because the quick can easily be seen.
  • Check for a white nail to see how much to cut.
  • If you make a mistake and cut the Quick (the Nail bed) of the dog - hold regular old flour to stop bleeding.
