I will teach you what steps to take to stop your children from sneaking out!

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

I think the first and most important step in preventing your child from sneaking out is to expect they will. So many parents think their child won't, but chances are they will. Next, leave your bedroom door open at night while you are sleeping.

  2. Step 2

My parents hung bells on the door high enough to make it hard to quietly remove them. They also went as far as to place screws in my screen to prevent me from leaving through my window.

  3. Step 3

If you have a girl keep her make-up in your bathroom. Chances are if she is sneaking out she will be going somewhere and will want to look her best. Most teenage girls won't be caught dead around friends without her face on!

  4. Step 4

Be sure to explain the dangers of what she is doing. If possible the best thing you can do is to have a alarm system on your home and to be sure before you go to bed that all windows and doors are closed and the alarm is set.

on 5/22/2009 Teens THINK that we are blind and have NO clue what they're doing. They are so sneaky, they will find ANY and ALL ways around our diversion methods. We just have to be on our toes and try just about anything to see that our tens are safe. Double sided deadbolt locks on all dooors and windows nailed shut!? (what about a fire?) Hey, once you've tried everything else, consider having them put in juvenile hall for a week or so. Let them find out what total loss of freedom really is. They think we don't know, but we do.... afterall, how are we so able to call their next moves?

My wife and I never had to deal with this and thank God we didn't. We have friends that did. Some of it may be traced back to the crowd they run with. Keep an eye on that.

on 10/24/2007 I knew girls who would get make-up and even clothes from their friends after sneaking out...

An alarm system is probably the only way - but don't underestimate the tech-savvyness of your children and keep the system under lock and key...
