One of the basics of American food has come to be pasta. It is easy and so versatile. Sauces are inexpensive and in every grocery store as well as local convenience shops. Here is a way to make a quick gourmet pasta sauce by adding a few things to a jar of ordinary spaghetti sauce.

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 handful basil - finely chopped
  • 1 tb oregano - dried
  • 1 bell pepper - finely chopped
  • 1 medium fresh tomato - finely chopped
  • 1 cup mushrooms - sliced
  • 1 lb Italian sausage - loose
  • 32 oz jar of pasta sauce
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 small onion chopped
  1. Step 1
     

    Start by browning your sausage in a heavy fry pan, stirring often. When it is almost done, add your onion. Allow 5 minutes of cooking - stirring often and then add garlic.

  2. Step 2
     

    If any grease accumulates, drain it off. Now add chopped peppers, tomatoes and mushrooms. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes.

    Now add your tomato sauce. Stir well and then add fresh chopped basil.

  4. Step 4
     

    Remove from heat. Keep covered and hot until pasta is cooked. Add a little sauce to pasta - stir and then plate. Top pasta with generous portion of sauce.

    That's it! Grab a fork and enjoy! Add a glass of Chianti wine, some crusty bread and you will have a gourmet dinner!
