      Paint the cut areas of pressure treated outdoor wood furniture with two coats of end-cut solution. This is a thin liquid that soaks into the wood providing the same protection that is injected into it.

      Select a water sealant that meets your needs. A good water sealant causes water to bead up and roll off of the item. Higher-quality water sealants also provide protection from ultraviolet rays to help maintain color and appearance.

      Thoroughly coat your furniture with the water sealer, following application directions on the container.

  • Redwood needs a clear sealant to maintain its fresh-cut color.

  • Outdoor wood like cedar, cypress and tropical hardwoods do not require water sealants.

  • Specially made covers can protect your furnishings from water, particularly if they are fitted with cushions.

  • Water sealers have a limited effective life. You need to recoat on occasion, based on the environment your project is in and the quality of the sealer you used.

  • Some sealers have fumes that are not healthy to breathe, you may need to use a respirator.
