Learn how to quickly change a baby's diaper.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Diaper
  • Wipes
  • Changing Pad or Table
  1. Step 1

Before starting, wash your hands and make sure you have the diaper and wipes readily available; then open up and slip the clean diaper under the dirty diaper that the baby is still wearing.

  2. Step 2

Once the clean diaper is directly under the still-attached diaper, take off the dirty diaper and put it out of reach of the baby.

  3. Step 3

If you're changing a baby boy's diaper, immediately place a wipe over the genital area to ensure that he doesn't spray you while you're cleaning him with another clean wipe.

  4. Step 4

If you're changing a girl, make sure to take the wipe and clean her genital area from the front to the back. Use a clean wipe each time you go to clean the area.

  5. Step 5

Once the baby has been cleaned, remove all wipes and secure the diaper, making sure there is no part of the diaper that is folded or stuck in an awkward way, otherwise the next time the baby poops or pees, it will likely escape the diaper!

  6. Step 6

Wash your hands immediately to prevent the spread of germs!

Tips & Warnings
  • Have a toy nearby to distract the baby, making it easier to do your work without the baby getting upset and making it more difficult to keep his/her legs straight and manageable.
  • Sing, or talk to your baby to make sure he/she is comfortable and at ease, making you're job much less stressful and the time a bonding experience.
  • Under no circumstances should you leave your baby alone on a changing table, or other raised surface. For that reason, make sure you begin changing a diaper when you know you will have time to start and finish without outside interruptions.
