You're pregnant! Congratulations. The reality is you're probably reading this how-to article because you're suffering from morning sickness. As a mother of three, I suffered morning sickness (including vomiting) from the very first discovery of the pregnancy to the moment my water broke. I'll share with you in this article what worked for me and what didn't. You probably don't feel your usual 100% healthy self. Smells that normally didn't bother you pre-pregnancy are now causing you to do the olympic sprint to the nearest bathroom. The nausea is constantly nagging you. Being pregnant is demanding enough - lets manage this morning sickness!!! A majority of the symptoms I just shared last throughout your first trimestar and subside during the second trimestar. Almost 75 percent of women suffer morning sickness at one point throughout their pregnancy. So feel warmth in knowing, we never suffer alone. Just because it's called "Morning Sickness" doesn't mean it will always occur in the morning. Every woman reacts differently to their changing hormones and pregnancy, which means it can happen at anytime including afternoon, evening, or overnight. There are some optians you can try to ease the morning sickness and nasuea.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Sleep
  • Healthy Snacks
  • Vitamin B-6
  • Peppermint or Spearmint Hard Candies
  • Ginger Tea
  • Lots of Water
  • Crackers or Toast

Step1
Start spacing out your meals to every 2-3 hours. Make the portions smaller and avoid anything that is spicy. Eating smaller meals throughout the day will not only give you constant energy but will keep you full. Sometimes when you feel hungry it can onset nausea. Keep those bellies full.
Step2
Learn what triggers you to feel ill. Is it the smell of onions? Or maybe your dog? It could quite possiably be your favorite dessert, triple chocolate layer cake. Keep in mind your hormones are changing therefore things that may have no bothered you before may have a different affect on you now. Stay away from smells that really bother you. If you can't avoid them than make sure you are always in a well ventilated space.
Step3
Instead of choking down your prenatal vitamins first thing the morning, try taking them at night after having a filling snack. I personally found that taking the pills in the morning only increased my nausea. But taking them at night I slept through any ill side affects they may have caused.
Step4
Nausea can sometimes be tamed by peppermint, spearmint or ginger hard candies. Keep some on hand with you where ever you go. Ginger tea is also supposed to help alleviates nausea. Taking a vitamin B6 supplement may help too. For unknown reasons, vitamin B6 has be shown to be an effective nausea reliever in up to 50% of pregnant women. Ask your doctor about an anti-nauseant that is safe to take during pregnancy.
Step5
Staying hydarated is very important. Drinking lots of water is good for you and your growing baby (Yes I realize it's torture to your bladder). Always keep a fresh bottle of water near you - a tip my birth coach gave me with pregnancy #1. Be exspecially aware of your hydration during the hot summer months. Becoming dehydrated can not only make you feel ill but cause cramps, dizziness, and contractions.
Step6
Get an ample amount of sleep. I'm sure you have heard already, "Enjoy it now because when baby comes....". It's true mamas. Sleep, relax, and pamper yourself. You deserve it. It will help take your mind off of the morning sickness.

Tips & Warnings

  • You should always approach your doctor about any concerns or questions you may have about your pregnancy.
  • Always ask your doctor first before starting any over the counter medication, herbal remedies, or vitamins.
  • Usually, morning sickness is nothing to worry about. However some woman can develop hyper emesis gravid arum. This is severe case of vomiting, chronic nausea, dehydration, and weight loss.
