VBAC (Vaginal birth after cesarean) is fairly uncommon in today's society. In the USA, nearly 1 in every 3 babies is born via cesarean. This makes repeat c-sections inevitable for many women. However, some mothers simply don't want to settle for a repeat c-section. Instead, they opt for a VBAC. After a woman has made the decision to have a VBAC, she must discuss her decision with her spouse. Here is the best method for discussing VBAC with your partner.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Open mind
  1. Step 1

Ask your partner how he felt when you had your c-section. Was he scared? Was he worried? Did he feel useless?

  2. Step 2

Tell him how your cesarean made you feel. If you were scared, angry, sad or depressed, let him know.

  3. Step 3

Explain to him your various options for the future: repeat c-section, VBAC or no more children. One of the main reasons people choose not to have a VBAC is the lack of knowledge.

  4. Step 4

State simply to him that you would like to have a VBAC for your next child. Explain your reasons for this decision.

  5. Step 5

Listen to his response. If you listen to him, he will be more likely to listen to you and your wants.

Tips & Warnings
  • Facts and statistics of success help greatly
  • Discuss VBAC as soon as you have made your decision. Don't wait until the last minute
  • If possible, let him speak to a successful VBAC couple
  • Many people have preconceived notions about VBAC. Be prepared to battle those beliefs
