Lights! Camera! ACTION! That’s what it’s all about, right? Action films invariably start with a high-concept idea. Something that gets people in the seats. Writing a high-concept action film is one way a screenwriter can go about trying to get their foot in the door of a studio.

Things You'll Need:

  • Final Draft
  • pen
  • paper
  • computer
  • Dvds
  1. Step 1

It’s important to watch as many action films as humanly possible if you hope to one day write one. Watch, rinse, repeat. You have to know the genre inside and out.

  2. Step 2

Now that you’re familiar with the genre, dig in and try and brainstorm some ideas. Action films deal with the utmost of consequences. Your hero or even the world must be in life-threatening danger.

  3. Step 3

Make sure your idea is simple. "Die Hard" on a bus, “Speed.” That’s how easy to understand it must be. If you have to explain dozens of scenarios within your screenplay for anyone to understand it, it’s way too convoluted.

  4. Step 4

Make sure your idea is fresh. Research on the Internet to make sure you haven’t come up with an idea that has been done before. There’s lots of movies out there, make sure yours is original.

  5. Step 5

Pitch your idea to some of your most trusted friends. You’re looking to see their reaction. If their eyes pop open and they’re tantalized with the prospect of your idea, you might have hit on a gem.
