How to Add a Colored Filter in Adobe Photoshop CS2

Add subtle color effects to a digital photograph using Adobe Photoshop CS2.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 software installed
  • Digital Photograph
  • Computer
  • Mouse
  1. Step 1

    Open the digital image. Go to
    Layer-->
    New Adjustment Layer-->
    Photo Filter

  2. Step 2
    Warm Tones vs. Cool Tones
    Warm Tones vs. Cool Tones

    Select "Filter":
    Choose the Warming Filter (LBA) to add warm tones (yellows, oranges, browns, reds, etc).
    Choose the Cooling Filter (LBB) to add cool tones (blues, greens, pinks, purples, etc).
    There are many other filter options.

    -OR-

    Select "Color":
    Choose your own custom filter color.
    After selecting this option, simply click on the color swatch and choose your color from the Color Chart.

  3. Step 3

    Move the "Density slider" to your desired color balance (make sure the "Preview" button is checked).

  4. Step 4

    To preserve the image' s brightness, check "Preserve Luminosity". To darken the image, uncheck this option.

  5. Step 5

    To apply the chosen filter or color, click "OK".

  6. Step 6

    Finally, click on the "Background" layer in the "Layers Palette".
    Go to Image -->
    Adjustments -->
    Desaturate

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose another color by double-clicking the Adjustment Layer in the Layers Palette, and tone a monochrome image in one step!
