Managing a Sim's financial stability can be a difficult task, depending on the lifestyle you are trying to give your Sim. If you're having trouble keeping costs down, there are some things you can try to help your Sim live frugally.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Build your home inexpensively. Use the cheapest available carpet, floor coverings and wall coverings. If you're desperate, you can leave your house unpainted. Looking at bare drywall every day won't bother your Sim.
Step2
Purchase only things you need. There is no need to buy a dining table with seating for 8 if you have a Sim who lives alone. You can also do without a kitchen sink if you have a dishwasher. Think about what your Sim will need to do each day and purchase only the things she needs to do those things to live frugally.
Step3
Eat leftovers. If you have the Seasons expansion pack, your Sims can store food as leftovers to eat later. This can especially save money for a Sim who lives alone or a small family, as a prepared meal is 6 servings. By putting away leftovers and eating them later, you can cut your Sim's grocery bill in half or more.
Step4
Keep only one outfit. It can be tempting to buy your Sim new outfits when you get tired of seeing him wear the same clothes every day. But if he's struggling financially, there is no need to buy him new clothes. He doesn't mind wearing the same clothes for his entire adult life, so there is no need to buy more outfits.
Step5
Carpool to work. As much fun as it would be for your Sim to have her own car, there is no need when transportation to and from work is free. You can also save yourself the cost of constructing a driveway and a garage by not having a car in the first place.
Step6
Pay attention to your mailbox and pay your bills on time. When bills are late, your Sim will get charged late fees. Avoid this unnecessary cost by watching your mailbox each day for bills and paying them right away.
