1. Build your home inexpensively. Use the cheapest available carpet, floor coverings and wall coverings. If you're desperate, you can leave your house unpainted. Looking at bare drywall every day won't bother your Sim.
2. Purchase only things you need. There is no need to buy a dining table with seating for 8 if you have a Sim who lives alone. You can also do without a kitchen sink if you have a dishwasher. Think about what your Sim will need to do each day and purchase only the things she needs to do those things to live frugally.
3. Eat leftovers. If you have the Seasons expansion pack, your Sims can store food as leftovers to eat later.
