Gardening in Sims 2 can be a lot of work, but a very rewarding hobby for your Sim. Meals cooked with fresh produce are more satisfying. Sims can also sell their garden-grown fruits and vegetables for Simoleons and make a decent living as a farmer.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

    Garden Plots

  1. Step 1

Go into build mode and purchase some garden plots. The plots cost 10 Simoleons apiece. Place several plots in your Sim's yard.

  2. Step 2

Fertilize your garden plot by clicking on it and selecting "Fertilize." It costs 10 Simoleons per plot to fertilize.

  3. Step 3

Plant seeds into each plot. The type of seed you are able to plant depends on your gardening talent level. If this is the first time your Sim has ever gardened, she will be able to plant tomato seeds.

  4. Step 4

Water your garden plots. You can water plots by hand by clicking on a plot and selecting "Water." Or, you can also set up a sprinkler system that will keep your plants watered automatically. Rain will also water your plants for you.

  5. Step 5

Tend to your plants to keep them free of weeds and overgrown branches. To do this, click on the plant and select "Tend." The more talented your Sim becomes in gardening, the less often he will have to tend to the plants.

  6. Step 6

Keep your plants from becoming bug-infested. If your plant has bugs, you can spray it with pesticide, though this lowers the overall quality of the food it yields. You can also prevent bugs from infesting your plants by placing the Lovely Ladybug Loft near your garden. Plants enclosed in greenhouses also will be free of bugs.

  7. Step 7

Harvest your plant when it shows its fruit or vegetables. Use the "Harvest" or "Harvest Many" interaction to pick the fruits or vegetables. The food will be placed in your Sim's inventory. Or, if you wish to sell the produce right away, use the "Sell" interaction.

  8. Orchard Trees

  9. Step 1

Go into build mode and purchase an orchard tree for your lot. You can choose from apple, lemon or orange trees. Each tree costs 1,200 Simoleons.

  10. Step 2

Keep your eye on the tree each day. There is no need to water it, but it will need to be tended to if branches get unruly or bugs start infesting it. To clean up unruly branches, click on the tree and select "Tend." To spray the tree with pesticide to get rid of the bugs, click on it and choose "Spray."

  11. Step 3

Harvest the tree when the fruit appears. You can use the "Harvest" interaction to put the fruit in your Sim's inventory or you can choose the "Sell" interaction to sell the fruit for Simoleons.

Tips & Warnings
  • Construct a greenhouse to keep your garden going through the winter. Greenhouse building options are available in build mode.
  • Don't over water your plants. They should only be watered once every 24 hours. Have your Sim water the garden at a specific time each day so you don't lose track of the schedule.
