A stationary bicycle is a great way to get a low impact cardiovascular exercise routine. They are normally quiet and do not take up much room so they are nice to have around. You can read a book, watch television, or listen to music all while getting a good heart healthy exercise routine in.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.

  2. Step 2

Start off slow. Especially if you are new to exercising, you do not want to over stimulate your muscles.

  3. Step 3

Select the stationary bicycle that is right for you.

  4. Step 4

Look at the seating position. It needs to be comfortable for your height in order to maintain good balance and mobility.

  5. Step 5

Position the bike so that you have a clear and safe working area.

  6. Step 6

Adjust your body on the bike so that your body weight is evenly distributed between your arms and your seat. The saddle should be level with the floor to avoid injury and your hips should not rock while you pedal.

  7. Step 7

Decide what height you want the handlebars to be. You may need to work out on the bike several times before you get the handlebars precisely where you want them for your maximum comfort.

Tips & Warnings
  • Test ride several stationary bikes before you buy one. You should know how the bike works before you get it home.
  • Be patient in completing the positioning process of the seat and handlebars. This can sometimes take several workouts to get it correct.
