Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Compile a list of what you and your family spend on a monthly basis. This should include everything from gas money to eating out to a list of your current and passed due debts.
Step2
Total up all of you and your family's income per month.
Step3
Take your monthly expenses and subtract that from your monthly income.
Step4
Decide where you can afford and are willing to make cuts from in order to live on a more frugal budget.
Step5
Make sacrifices in order to get out of debt. This means looking again at your budget and seeing where you can make further cuts in order to reduce the debt you are carrying.
Step6
Decide what your ultimate financial goals are in the future and put your budget in motion.
Step7
Determine if you are sticking to your new frugal budget and rework it if you need to.
Step8
Always continue looking over your budget every month to decide if you can cut an area of spending out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Write down every cent you spend for one month. This will give you a feel for what you spend on gas, gifts, and fun, which otherwise would be tougher to determine.
  • Be true about how you spend, this way you know your budget has a chance of working.
  • Budgets are always evolving and changing.
  • Not paying your debtors is not an option. You must pay them while you are living your frugal lifestyle.
