How to Create a Formal Place Setting

For your next elaborate dinner, you'll probably want to pull out your best china and tablecloth. Finish the look by creating a formal place setting at each seat. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Position the accent plate to sit on the table directly in front of where the guest will be sitting.

      Take a dinner plate and put it directly on top of the accent plate.

      Picture your accent plate as the center of a clock. Put the bread plate at the 10:00 position.

      Position the butter knife so that it is slightly diagonal with the point end pointing towards 11:00. Set the water glass at 1:00, above the knives.

      Place your wine glass to the right of and just below the water glass

      Set the dessert spoon in a horizontal position above the accent plate. The dessert fork should be above the dessert spoon and should face the opposite direction of the spoon.

      Place the dinner knife to the right of the plate, your soup spoon will be to the right of the dinner knife.

      Put the salad fork to the left of the accent plate with the dinner fork next to it.

      Set the napkin either to the left of the forks or on the plate in a triangular shape. You also can place the folded, triangular napkin in your empty water glass.
