Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area where you want to put the coat rack. Project a size that fits 5 to 6 door knobs. Go to a lumber store and pick a pre-cut pine wood that matches the measurements, or have the store cut it for you.

    • 2

Paint or stain the wood to match the decorating style of the room.

    • 3

Mark the center points on the wood with a ruler and pencil. Depending on the length, the center points can be spaced every 2 inches. The points indicate where you will drill the holes for the doorknobs hangers.

    • 4

Cut out the wallpaper designs that will accent the doorknobs after they are screwed into the pine wood. Soak the designs in water. Place them in the measured spots with the design facing up on the wood. Allow them to dry.

    • 5

Apply 1 coat of clear polyurethane over the wood. Allow the wood to dry. The polyurethane holds the cut outs in place and protects the wood.

    • 6

Drill holes into the center of the wallpaper designs. Use a drill bit size that correlates with the doorknobs' screw size. Make sure the drilled holes are centered within the designs.

    • 7

Insert proper doorknob hardware into the back of the coat rack and screw the knobs into place. Make sure they are tight.

    • 8

Attach 2 female picture hanger parts on the backside at each end of the wood. Place 2 male picture hanger parts on the wall to fit the female hanger parts. Mount the coat rack to the wall, so that it is fully secured.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep wood dry when applying wallpaper cut-outs by blotting them with a clean rag.

  • After the wallpaper is dry, measure the distance again and mark it lightly with the pencil to make the subsequent steps simpler.

  • If doing this project with a child, be sure that an adult does the drilling.

  • Clean the paint brush thoroughly after painting the wood, so you can use the same brush for the polyurethane.

A photo and suggested dimensions, for the parts, would be very helpful. I am not going to start this project, if I don't have an idea of what it will look like, when finished.
