How to Join High IQ Societies

For individuals with high IQ's it can be difficult to connect and find others who share your interest. High IQ societies can allow you to form friendships and explore interests with those of similar abilities. Use these steps to assist you in joining high IQ societies.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the type of society you would like to join. Some societies exist solely online. Others like Mensa have extensive worldwide memberships that allow you to connect with others who live in your community.

    • 2

Research the society. Some IQ societies may only thrive or exist for a few years. Others are so exclusive there are very few members. Speak to current members, look for societies free of controversy and those that have been around for a while.

    • 3

Search online to find high IQ societies. Most high IQ societies maintain their own websites online. Sites like "Puzz" offer detailed information on high IQ societies that you can join. (See Resources below.)

    • 4

Read the rules of membership. Usually the only qualification to join is scoring in the top 5 percentile or better on a standardized IQ test.

    • 5

Review the types of IQ test that are accepted. Results from previous IQ tests you have taken may qualify you for membership. Obtain copies of these results.

    • 6

Take an IQ test. When no previous record of your IQ is available get an IQ test done. These test can be administered by a licensed psychotherapist, diagnostic technician and many universities.

    • 7

Apply for admission into the society. A copy of your IQ test results that feature a qualifying score and any membership forms should be completed. Follow the society's instructions on how to mail forms or send membership information online.

    • 8

Pay membership dues. Like most clubs, high IQ societies require membership dues. Determine how interested you are in pursuing membership when dues are expensive.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some sites have created their own IQ test and only accept certain scores on these results for membership.

  • Standardized tests, including the ACT and GMAT used for college admissions, may be used for qualification in some high IQ societies.

  • High IQ societies may be very competitive in nature. Some may limit the freedom of their members while involved in society activities. Know the rules and regulations that govern the society before joining.
