Step 1
Learn the controls. As are many arcade games from its time, Frogger's controls are quite simplistic. You have a joystick with which you can move forward, backward, left and right. That's all you have to do. No fire button, no jump button, just move.

Step 2
Understand the goal of the game. Again, this is pretty simple. You want to get your frog from the bottom of the screen to its home at the top of the screen. You must do so without getting run over by vehicles, falling in the water, or getting caught by some dangerous predators.

Step 3
Get across the road. The levels are split into two sections, and there is a safe haven in between the sections in the form of a purple sidewalk. To get across the road to the sidewalk, you need to weave through the cars. This is definitely the simpler of the two sections. The vehicles move in alternating directions in each lane, so weave your way through to the sidewalk without touching a car. Catch your breath briefly and prepare to cross the river.

Step 4
Cross the river. This is where things get difficult, especially at higher levels. You will first encounter turtles that you can jump on. Beware of diving turtles, because if they dive when you are on them, you will die. The same group of turtles dive every time, so if you see them dive once, avoid that group. Use the logs and turtles to cross the rest of the way. At higher levels, you may see crocodiles in place of logs. You can ride on a crocodile's back, but don't get anywhere near the mouth, for obvious reasons.

Step 5
Avoid snakes and beavers. The beavers will chase after logs in the river, but they should not concern you unless you are at the edge of a log. Snakes on the other can be quite bothersome. They appear on logs and on the purple sidewalk between the road and river. Avoid snakes at all costs.

Step 6
Make it home safely. There are 5 open spaces at the top of the screen that you must get your frogs to. You have to fill in all 5 before you can proceed to the next level. Start on the left-hand side because it is the hardest to make it to. Do not jump on a space already occupied by a frog or you will die, and don't jump into a space where there is a crocodile mouth or you will also die.

Step 7
Collect some points. Speed matters, so be fast. You can get a bonus 200 points by landing in a home space currently occupied by a fly. You can also get a bonus 200 points by picking up a female frog and taking her safely home. The female frogs are purple and appear on the first row of logs. Touch the female frog to have her join you (your frog will turn purple) and make it the rest of the way across the river without dying to receive your bonus.
