Things You'll Need:
- 5-gallon bucket
- Knife
- Screen
- Scissors
- Glue or caulking
- Twine
- 3-pound coffee can
- Bait
-
Step 1
Cut windows out of a five-gallon bucket using a sharp knife. Go all the way around the bucket for the best effect. Then cut a round hole in the bottom of the bucket.
-
Step 2
Take a piece of screening and build a cone shape that fits into the opening in the bottom of the bucket. Leave a small opening at the top of the cone large enough for a fly to fit through, which is about the size of your pinkie finger. Secure the cone to the bottom of the bucket using glue or caulking.
-
Step 3
Place screening on the inside of the bucket. Take another piece of screen and glue it inside the bucket walls to cover up the windows that you cut out of the bucket.
-
Step 4
Put a lid on it. With another piece of screen, create a circular or square piece to act as a lid. You can secure it with a bit of twine or string. You must be able to take the lid off to remove any flies you catch.
-
Step 5
Bait your trap. Put the bait of your choice (meat works well) into a 3-pound coffee can. Place the can in the desired location and then hang the trap over it. Since flies always fly up, they'll move up into your cone and become trapped. Change the bait regularly.
