When it comes to giving advice, it's important to know how to be diplomatic at all times. You need to watch what you say, and always pay attention to how your words may affect others. With a little bit of practice, you'll find it easy to give diplomatic advice and sway others to your side.

  1. Step 1

Stay away from absolutes. When trying to give diplomatic advice, it's important to never say never. This can make the other person hostile, and end up causing trouble. Instead tell them what you would normally do in a situation such as the present one.

  2. Step 2

Avoid taking sides. Again, you never know when the situation will take a turn on you. So don't pick sides or tell the other person what she should or shouldn't do. If you tell her to break up with her boyfriend, it will cause tension if they get back together a week later.

  3. Step 3

Smile. Diplomatic advice is something that should go over smoothly for all parties, so smile while you're giving your advice. It reaffirms that you care.

  4. Step 4

Think about what others want to hear. One trick to giving diplomatic advice is to think about what the other person wants to hear. He generally has an idea already in mind, so be mindful of your words and try not to belittle his choices. Sometimes it's better to agree with his ideas now and try to persuade him later.
