Step 1
Be safe when using candles. A lot of things we associate with Christmas, like trees, wrapping paper and stockings, are flammable and must not be placed anywhere near an open flame. When decorating for your Christmas party, place candles away from anything potentially flammable, or plan on using candles for decoration without lighting them.
-
Step 2
Find inspiration in nature. Elements of the season found outdoors can double as great decorations to use with candles. Place a tall pillar candle on a decorative dish or candle holder and surround it with pinecones. Gather a few fir or holly branches or some sprigs of winter berries and use a hot glue gun to glue them around a pillar candle. Your party guests will love the homespun feel that decorations like these give your Christmas party.

Step 3
Use candles as gifts. An individual candle for each guest or family in attendance is a fun and inexpensive way to decorate your party and give each guest a little Christmas cheer at the same time. To make it extra special, attach trinkets, toys or small "stocking stuffer" presents to each candle and create something unique for every person invited to your Christmas party.
-
Step 4
Incorporate the colors of the season. Certain colors or themes are synonymous with the Christmas season. Using colors that everyone associates with the holiday will give your Christmas party a festive and fun feel. Alternate decorating with different shades of red and green for a simple Christmas theme or get sophisticated with silver, gold and white candles.

Step 5
Get crafty. Rather than buying predecorated candles to use as decorations for your Christmas party, stock up on a few basic supplies from the local arts and crafts store and transform plain candles into festive decorations. For example, if the tablecloth you are using for your party has snowflakes on it, use silver glitter craft paint to embellish ordinary white candles with shimmery snowflakes. If your centerpiece is a snowman or Christmas tree, paint colored candles with miniature presents and ornaments or use felt appliqués and pipe cleaners to create a snowman using a white pillar candle for its body. Creating your own candle decorations for your Christmas party is a fun way to be thrifty and give your party a feel that is all you.
