How to Join the Anglican Church

The Anglican Church believes in the life, death and resurrection of Christ. They worship by recalling these aspects of Christ in song and prayer, and by reading scripture and following the sacraments. The Anglican Church is typically known for having a worship that is middle ground for Roman Catholic practices and Protestant Practices.

1. Follow the beliefs and traditions of the Anglican Church. You need to believe in the doctrine used by the Anglican Church. This church was influenced by the Roman Catholic Church. You need to believe that the Holy Scripture is God's inspired word and includes the Old and New Testament. You must follow the Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed.
2. Choose which faction you believe. The Anglican Church has different associations within it including the Traditional Communion, the Canterbury Communion and the Episcopal Church. These factions while rooted in the same tradition have developed different doctrinal views and practices. Depending on the area you live, your choice in which faction may be limited to what parish is available.
3. Find a parish in your area. You can look in your local yellow pages or use the Internet. The website for the Anglican Church in America has a link for "Member Churches." You can use this link to find a practicing church by continent.
4. Attend a worship service. The Anglican Church uses accustomed patterns that are the same week by week to worship. The patterns vary based on the season of the year. Most Anglican Churches use common prayer from a set text such as the "Book of Common Prayer."
5. Complete the required steps to become a member. Some Anglican Churches require you to complete classes or the Catechumenal Process prior to becoming a member. These classes are designed to teach you the necessary information to become a mature disciple of the Church. If you've completed this process with another parish, you may need to reaffirm your commitments with the new parish.
6. Partake in the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist and Holy Matrimony as practiced by the Anglican Church. They also follow the Sacraments of Holy Orders and Penance and Unction of the Sick.
