From Quick Guide: Back to School
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a list of the items that are needed for school. Most education centers and schools send home supply lists at the end of each school year or mail them directly to families. Some local stores display lists of school supplies for local schools.

  2. Step 2

Check the weekly ads found in local newspapers beginning in July. Keep in mind that many stores will display certain items at rock bottom prices just to get you in the store. Avoid purchasing things that are not on sale. Make a list of which supplies are on sale at what location.

  3. Step 3

Map out the locations of the stores and determine the order to visit each store. Note which supplies you will purchase at each store. Once the supplies have been purchased, check them off the list to keep track of each item.

  4. Step 4

Purchase school clothes for the entire year. School clothes go on sale at the same time the school supplies do.

  5. Step 5

Purchase quality items rather than cheap items that can break during the year, but don't overlook generic items either. Generic glue, markers and crayons generally work well in place of name brand items.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check out clearance and store specials at each store.
  • Stock up on office supplies for the whole year when you discover them on sale.
  • Purchase extras to replenish the supply in the middle of the year. Items such as glue sticks and crayons frequently need replacing.
