There are several ways your website can work for you, but one of the most popular--and, for some, most profitable--method is to use web advertising from Google Adsense, which generates cash every time someone clicks on a Google-generated advertisement.

1. Sign up for Adsense at the website listed below. Once all of the steps are completed, you'll receive HTML code to place on your pages to generate the ads.

2. Place your advertising in three locations on your page. Put one set across the top, another down the left or right side and another in the middle, making sure readers don't have to scroll down the page to see them.

3. Choose the largest format for the ads and also don't limit yourself to text advertising. The object here is to attract attention and to get readers to click on them.

4. Edit the HTML code to move the more popular advertisements to more prominent spots on the page. You can check to see how well each advertisement is doing by generating reports from the Google Adsense website.

5. Use all of the options available to you, including the Google Products link and the Google search engine link. Both of these generate income if someone clicks on the advertisements associated with them. Google Adsense also generates HTML code for these to be placed on your website.

6. Specify what types of ads you want on your website by tracking their profitability and selecting which ads you want Adsense to generate for you.
