How to Install a Philips Plasma TV

The majority of televisions in homes today are built around the cathode ray tube. With plasma televisions, the central element is the plasma in a fluorescent light made up of electrically charged ions and electrons that are free flowing and gaseous. The basic science of a plasma display is to illuminate tiny colored fluorescent lights to form an image. Each pixel has three fluorescent lights—red, green and blue.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Electrical wire
  • Retrofit electrical junction box
  • Outlet box
  • Plasma television
  1. Step 1

Select a location for the electrical outlet where your plasma television will be mounted.

  2. Step 2

Turn off the power to the outlet you will move and cut a hole in the wall where you will install the new outlet.

  3. Step 3

Drop a string from the new outlet hole to the old one and attach the line to the electrical wire—pull the electrical wire through to the new outlet.

  4. Step 4

Install a new retrofit electric box that will be used to provide a power source to the plasma television.

  5. Step 5

Isolate the wiring to the new outlet hole and connect it to the old wiring in the old outlet.

  6. Step 6

Restore power to the new outlet and test with a lamp. Do not plug your plasma television into the new outlet without a preliminary test.

  7. Step 7

Insert the power cord of the plasma television to the new outlet if it passes the lamp test and enjoy the new clarity of your picture.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose a place for your plasma television that has an outlet already installed.
  • Test the new outlet before you plug in your plasma TV—a lamp is cheaper than a television.
