How to Start a 4-H Technology Program

I Did This Rate: (0 Ratings)

If you have knowledge of computers or other types of technology, and if you would like to do something for your community, start a 4H technology program. Members can learn how to build computers, run common programs, build websites or work with digital photography and music. There is no limit to the amount of fun you and your group can have.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Gather information about the 4H technology program. Visit your local county extension office to see what kind of information is available. The local youth specialist can also guide you to members who might like to participate in your 4H technology project.
Step2
Locate a computer classroom you might use for the technology project. Many schools allow after-school clubs to meet. They might allow you to use their computer lab. Public libraries and community computer labs represent additional options.
Step3
Advertise the 4H technology program. Post fliers in local schools, libraries and grocery stores. Sign students up for 4H through a local club. Your technology group might be all from the same club or from around the county.
Step4
Hold your first project meeting. Decide what you are going to accomplish. Technology is not just computers. It might include digital photography and digital music. Determine your group's interests. Let them pick the first project from among choices you give them.
Step5
Continue to meet with your group until each member completes a project. Help the project members prepare their projects for the local fair.
Step6
Plan field trips with your group. Technology project members should experience real-world technology whenever possible. Arrange to take them to local labs and other technology centers.
Step7
Evaluate the technology program with your students. Help students with their end-of-year forms. Determine if they would like to continue for another year. Let them help you recruit new members.
