One of the main programs you need to run your computer is spreadsheet software. You don't have to use Microsoft, any spreadsheet program will do. Read on to find multiple ways to use your spreadsheet software.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Use templates. Any work, such as a budget, that you are doing repeatedly can be made into a spreadsheet and done without wasting much time at all. By using a template, you only need to enter the new data.
Step2
Keep track of any work you perform. Whether you are doing work at home or outside the home, you can use spreadsheet software to perform the task. It makes it very easy to check to see if you are being paid correctly.
Step3
Work out a budget. Most people need a budget to keep them on track with their income and expenses. Spreadsheet software makes this an easy task; you can enter your income in one column and your expenses in another, and add the columns and find if you are on track on not in the matter of minutes.
Step4
Balance your checkbook. You can easily set up a system to balance your checkbook every month. Make this into a template so you don't have to redo it every month.
Step5
Develop spreadsheets that are more complex. After you get the basics down, it is easy enough to make spreadsheets that are more complex. You may be able to combine your monthly budgets and the balancing of your checkbook or other spreadsheets that you are using for accounting purposes or even for work purposes.
Step6
Use macros. If you are using a spreadsheet to do the same task routinely, you can use macros to make your life easier.
Step7
Find your own uses for your spreadsheet software. Depending on what you do in your every day life, you could find numerous tasks to use your spreadsheet software. Rather than using that pen and paper, use your computer and spreadsheets. It will save you a lot of time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Routine tasks are easily done in spreadsheet software--use macros or templates to do them quickly.
  • It is not necessary to purchase Microsoft Excel--there are plenty of spreadsheet software programs that work as well, and will cost nothing or next to nothing.
