Chromotherapy, also called color therapy, can relieve stress by focusing your mind and energy on therapeutic, calming colors.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit a chromotherapist. A trained chromotherapist applies light and color to areas of the body to balance mental, physical and emotional energy.

  2. Step 2

Practice "color breathing," a meditation that can be performed during times of stress. Choose the colors blue and green, which reduce stress. Keep the color in your thoughts as you inhale and exhale slowly. See, feel and think the color.

  3. Step 3

Take a color test. The "Color Quiz" website includes a 5-minute test that was developed by Dr. Max Lûscher and used since the 1950s. This test will tell you what some of your stressors are based on your color preferences.

  4. Step 4

Create solarized water. Purchase a blue-colored container or use blue cellophane. Put water and an ice cube in the bottle, then place it in the sun until the ice cube melts. Sip the water throughout the day. Blue solarized water can be saved for a week or so.

  5. Step 5

Purchase items to assist in chromotherapy. Items range from inexpensive color therapy glasses, colored water bottles, oils, glass or silks to high-end items like whirlpools and showers.

  6. Step 6

Download color therapy software, which includes colors, pictures and other imagery formulated for stress relief. Or create a desktop wallpaper or colored cards that you can use to look at when you are feeling stressed. Look at and absorb the color until you feel saturated.

  7. Step 7

Make simple changes in your environment to practice stress relief through chromotherapy. Buy colored light bulbs, or place colored glass over the bulb. Paint a wall in soothing colors, or add accessories like bedspreads or pillows. Add some blue to your wardrobe.
