There are many pets without homes because people don't always understand the responsibility involved with caring for them. When they have a child, move or pass away, pets are often abandoned. A matchmakers takes the pets in the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and matches them up with responsible families who are educated in caring for these pets.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice good customer service in order to be a matchmaker between pets and people. You will be working a lot with the public so you need to know how to treat people well and understand what they are looking for in a pet.

  2. Step 2

Demonstrate a strong desire to work with pets. Since you will be working hands-on with pets for your entire shift you must enjoy being around them.

  3. Step 3

Contact your local SPCA for open positions as a matchmaker or pet adoption counselor and fill out the application. The SPCA is constantly looking for volunteers for this position because there are so many pets that need homes.

  4. Step 4

Attend an orientation with the SPCA on how to perform the position of matchmaker, or pet adoption counselor. They will go over the basic duties of the position with you.

  5. Step 5

Complete training for the matchmaker position. The SPCA will provide you with hands-on training for the position.

  6. Step 6

Commit at least five hours a week to being a matchmaker. You can volunteer as much as you desire but at least 5 hours a week is what's usually required.
