While society becomes increasingly enlightened and open to learning about and accepting people of other cultures, there are still those around who prefer hatred and mistrust. These bigots can ruin a wonderful interracial date in a heartbeat if you let them. It is best to have a plan and prepare for bigotry if you are involved in interracial dating within a culture still not open to your choices.

1. Talk openly with your date about what kind of reactions you might run into on your interracial date and how the two of you will act. You can deal more positively with bigotry when you are not blindsided by it.
2. Avoid racial hostilities if you know where they might arise. You would not want to take your date to a known redneck bar, for instance.
3. Ignore rudeness when you can. Loud and obnoxious bigots are most often snubbed in society. Their behavior reaps its own just rewards in the eyes of most cultures today.
4. Report the behavior to the police if you feel threatened or foresee additional repercussions from the person exuding the bigotry. Hate crimes are actively pursued and punished today. You may be sparing yourself further problems as well as issues for more people in the future.
5. Prepare some good-natured comebacks that can put people in their place. Nothing beats a humorous crack on a person's character and makes then look like the idiot they have been acting.
6. Surround yourself with friends. In social situations where you know bigots will taunt you. Then you can insulate yourself and your date with the camaraderie of accepting companions. If the racial disharmony leads to danger, you will feel safer in numbers.
