Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Start with software. There are several tools available that will allow the remote control of a handheld device. Use Google to find these tools. Use the keywords "remote control utility" and "PDA."
Step2
Shop around for PDA's that meet specific needs. Stylus verses keyboard. Large screen verses small screen. What is the provider coverage area? These are all issues that come into play when selecting the appropriate PDA. When selecting a PDA, it is imperative to have the answers to these questions. It will make the remote control of the device much easier.
Step3
Register each PDA on the software that was chosen. Test PDA's in various areas to determine connectivity and capabilities. WiFi is prevalent in most urban areas, but it is also contingent upon the service provider coverage.
Step4
Configure communications settings. PDA users will need to be instructed on how to access the communication manager. This is where WiFi, phone and email settings will be configured. Users will need to know which settings will allow the remote control utility to view the PDA.
Step5
Communicate with PDA users on various troubleshooting processes. Certain errors will cause the utility to lose the device. When these errors occur, users need to know that support is not available remotely. Written documentation on these types of errors and the options for users is extremely helpful.
