Handball is a game that is played in a competitive format with seven players per team. Training for handball is a matter of determining which position on the team you are best suited to, and learning as much as you can about your position.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine the position for which you are best suited. Shorter, faster players are typically positioned at the wings for handball since they have to be able to move with agility. The tallest handball players should be in the back court, as they can typically jump higher to catch the ball and throw more fiercely. The strongest, biggest player is typically made the goalkeeper since this person needs to be able to block the ball from going into the goal at all costs.

  2. Step 2

Work with the other players during scrimmages to hone your skills and work as a team. Teamwork skills are needed in this sport. It helps to have good instincts when knowing what others on your team are expected to do. That way, you can run the routes that needed to score as much as possible.

  3. Step 3

Practice individual activities that will strengthen your play at your position. If you are in the back court, strength training on your legs and arms will increase your ability to jump higher and throw with more force. If you are in the wing positions, strength and flexibility training are necessary to improve speed on the court. For goalkeepers, bulk up in the legs and and be able to move quickly.

  4. Step 4

Play against other handball teams as much as possible. Scrimmaging against your own teammates is a great way to get started in training. Nothing is better practice than competition itself. During competition, you and your teammates can even better understand what one another is doing and find out what skills you need to hone.
