How to Pick Word 2007 Document Themes
Apply themes to your Microsoft Office Word 2007 document by using a set of theme colors, fonts and effects. There are several predefined themes from which to choose, and you can even use them in other Office programs, such as Excel and PowerPoint.

Open Word 2007. Find the "Page Layout" tab on the screen, then click "Themes."

Under "Themes," go to "Built-In" to pick one of Word's predefined document themes. Choose your formatting options such as your colors, header, body and footer text fonts, along with any line or fill effects. If you want to customize your theme, go to the "Custom" tab to apply it.

Click "Browse for Themes" on your interface if a document theme is not listed in Word. You can find and download other themes in your network or on another location on your computer. Select "Search Office Online" to pick a theme from the Microsoft Office website.

Customize your document themes. In Word 2007, go to the "Page Layout" tab, "Themes," then "Theme Colors." Choose "Create New Theme Colors" while you are still in the themes mode. Click on the button of the theme color you would like to use, then preview your changes by going to the "Sample" button.

Enter a file name in the "Name" box if you want to save your color changes, then hit "Save." Next, go back to the "Page Layout" tab, "Themes," then "Theme Fonts" to change your document's text appearance. Go to "Create New Theme Fonts" in the themes mode.

Find the "Heading Font" and "Body Font" boxes in "Themes." Pick the fonts of your choice, such as Arial or Times New Roman. Type a name for your new fonts in the "Name" box, then hit save.

Set your theme effects. At the "Page Layout" tab, go to "Themes," then choose "Theme Effects." Choose any effects such as dotted lines, color fills or three-dimensional looks. Save the changes in your document.

Tips & Warnings
Click "Reset" before you save your document if you decide not to use your new theme. This will reset your document to the original default theme colors.
Download a Word 2007 document theme at Microsoft Office's website if you don't want to use any that are already in the program. Choose from a book theme, a welcome theme or even a carnival theme.
