Many formatting options can be applied to tables in Microsoft Word, including the ability to align tables horizontally. When you have a table in a document, you can set that table to be aligned horizontally left, center or right in just a few easy steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Start Microsoft Word and open an existing table from your files or create one in a new document.
Step2
Switch to Print Layout view by selecting the "View" menu and then "Print Layout." If the Print Layout option is highlighted then you are currently in the Print Layout view.
Step3
Move your mouse pointer to the top left corner of your table until you see a four-headed arrow surround by a box. This is the called the table move handle.
Step4
Click on the table move handle so you can select the table.
Step5
Go up to the "Table" menu and select "Table Properties." This will bring up the "Table Properties" dialog box. If necessary, click the "Table" tab.
Step6
Select either "Left," "Center" or "Right" from the alignment options.
Step7
Use the mouse to click the "OK" button on the "Table Properties" dialog box to close the box and align your table horizontally.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to only indent your table, leave your alignment selection as "Left" in the "Table Properties" dialog box and set an indent in the "Indent from left" textbox.
  • Use keyboard shortcuts to align your table horizontally by selecting the table and then using the shortcut of CTRL+L to align the table left, CTRL+E to center the table or CTRL+R to right-align the table.
  • You can horizontally align a table before or after you have inputted the data in it.
