The type of charter boat you select is determined by the number of people in your party and the amount of money you want to spend. Fishing is a popular reason to charter a boat, but romantic outings and formal affairs are popular as well. No matter what your reason for chartering a boat, there are some important steps you must take in order to find the best boat for your event.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine how many people are joining you on your charter. You want to determine this number before making any reservations or commitments, especially if the cost is to be split between all the guests.

  2. Step 2

Ask about special packages. Many charter companies offer boat charters for special occasions like bachelor parties, birthday parties or business parties and may give discounts accordingly.

  3. Step 3

Ask about the charter company's policy on refunds due to inclement weather. This should be done prior to making any monetary commitment to the charter company.

  4. Step 4

Call several different charter companies for price quotes. Assume that the next charter company you call has a better deal before committing to an overpriced excursion.

  5. Step 5

Look for lodging and accommodations near to your charter boat location. A day on the water fishing or partying ends with a boat full of tired people. Make sure you ask about lodging and make reservations ahead of time for you and your guests.

Tips & Warnings
  • When chartering a boat for a luncheon, dinner or other formal affair, you must ask about what amenities are included in the charter price. You must consider the cost of food, drinks and staff when getting price quotes for these types of charters.

on 9/5/2009 Regarding Article: How to select a charter boat: What this article tells you is "check price, call around and check price, look for deals." What this article does not tell you is that you get what you pay for in all industries. If you only check for the lowest price, you can bet you will receive the poorest experience. Some charter boats are very small, and\or provide a very poor atmospher and poor service. Of course the company with the lowest price will not tell you that. Therefore, always remember that you get what you pay for.
