Become a Retail Operations Manager

A retail operations manager can be a profitable position within a retail business. It usually has great benefits, decent salary and profit sharing if your store is exceeding estimated sales. There are many different routes you can take to become a retail operations manager.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply for a position as a retail associate with the company that you would like to work for. Focus on being on time, learning the company policies and working hard to exceed expectations. You can work your way up rather quickly if you show dedication and the ability to handle extra responsibility.

    • 2

Make a lateral transfer to a retail store as a supervisor if you are currently in a supervisory position. You can then train in the operations of the retail store and apply for a manager position when it becomes available.

    • 3

Earn your college degree then apply as a retail operations manager. Many retail stores have manager-in-training programs for college graduates. It's a bonus for any company if your degree is in business.

    • 4

Inquire with the district manager if you have previous management experience and would like to become their retail operations manager. If you can prove your previous management experience with references or documentation, then it's good possibility that you will be considered for the position.

    • 5

Interview for the position of retail operations manager. Be prepared to professionally answer questions regarding how you would deal with coworker complications, customer complaints, employee theft and other situations you will most likely encounter as a retail operations manager.
