How to Paddle Surf

Paddle surfing can either be done while either lying on a surfboard or standing on one. As a sport, it has its own competitions and is highly popular in the Pacific and Caribbean regions. For those who are already comfortable in the water, it's fairly easy to learn to paddle surf.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your surfboard, paddle into the water and look for the right wave. If you're looking for a nice, even wave, make your way out in the water a little bit so you can paddle surf toward shore. Once you find the right wave, hop on your surfboard--either lie on it or stand on it.

    • 2

Gain balance on your surf board. When you hop on your surfboard, your first obstacle will be staying on. You want to stable your board so you feel comfortable whether you are lying or standing on it. Use your paddle to gain your balance on the board.

    • 3

Paddle yourself and your surfboard along with the wave you're riding. Go with the water for the best ride. Paddle surfing requires flexibility, so be ready for anything and shift your body weight and paddle as needed. Go with the waves, riding and paddling toward the shore.

    • 4

Be ready for the bigger waves as you get closer to the shore. When you are nearing the larger waves, keep paddling to maintain your balance. Brace yourself for the large waves and be ready to ride them.
