A powered parachute is the perfect way to fly without having to get a pilot's license. It's relatively inexpensive for flying and is very safe. If your motor gives out you will just drift towards the ground as if you were parachuting.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide if you want to purchase a new or used powered parachute. If you are new to the sport consider buying a used powered parachute until you are sure that you enjoy the sport. If you decide later that you would like a new one you can always sell the used powered parachute without losing much money.

  2. Step 2

Look for a spring suspension on the front wheel. This prevents damage to the powered parachute if you have a hard landing.

  3. Step 3

Figure out if you want a one or two seater. If you have a spouse or close friend who is interested in flying it might be worth it to pay the additional cost to buy a two seater powered parachute. The two seaters are also known as tandem powered parachutes.

  4. Step 4

Pick a powered parachute with the appropriate weight limit. The payload determines how much weight the vehicle can carry. Take into account how much you weigh, or the total weight of the two people if you're buying a tandem powered parachute.

  5. Step 5

Determine how many blade propellers you want on your powered parachute. They come in two and three blade models.

  6. Step 6

Choose the size of the engine that you want. The more powerful the motor the faster the powered parachute. This also affects the amount of money you will spend.
