How to Pack a Race Car Parachute

A race car parachute should only be packed when you get to the race track. When you're towing your car or when it's sitting in the garage the parachute needs to remain unpacked. A race car parachute may not work properly if it's been packed for a long period of time. Follow these steps to learn how to pack a race car parachute.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the pilot parachute off of the canopy. Stretch the parachute as far as it will go. Grab each of the lines between your fingers and using both hands, walk backwards from the riser towards the canopy, untangling the lines as you go.

    • 2

Return to the riser and pick up the first two lines, placing one in each hand. Walk back to the canopy. Extend the parachute to check for tangles.

    • 3

Fold the race car parachute into a half panel by pulling in one side at a time, then fold it into another half panel making sure that all lines are evenly staked. S-fold the lines on the riser end of the canopy then S-fold the canopy over the top of the lines. It should now be the size of the parachute pack.

    • 4

Put the canopy in to the parachute pack. Tie the pilot chute to the top of the canopy then compact it.

    • 5

Install the packing cord into the parachute pack by putting it through the grommeted hole on the bottom flap, then through the hole in the top flap. Pull tightly then insert it in the hole on the left flap followed by the right flap.

    • 6

Finish packing the race car parachute by inserting the mechanism release cable into the end loop of the packing cord.
