How to Save Money on a Radar Detector

When you're shopping for a radar detector, of course you'd like to save some money. If you don't have a coupon or a friend who can give you an employee discount, there are ways to find a cheap radar detector as long as you are a smart shopper.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Decide what you want in a radar detector. You want to find out how the detectors handle false alarms, x/k radar sensitivity, KA radar sensitivity and Gatso sensitivity. Decide what levels of sensitivity and range you need, and buy a model that has just that.
Step2
Buy a cheap off-brand radar detector. Once you decide what type of technology you absolutely must have, it's time to find which models of radar detectors are truly what you need. Brand name radar detectors often have similar technology as off-brand detectors for double the price.
Step3
Buy a radar detector that is out of stock or isn't made anymore. While you may have problems finding replacement parts for these types of radar detectors, you can save money on by buying a model that isn't the latest and greatest. You probably wouldn't buy a replacement part for a radar detector anyway, since radar detectors can be purchased at fairly reasonable prices these days.
