An ultralight airplane is one of the less expensive do-it-yourself builds. It is for those who have always dreamt of building and flying their own plane but have lacked the funds to do so. The ultralight is also user friendly towards first time builders. It requires approximately 100 hours to build while more advanced kits require 200 hours.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase an ultralight kit from a dealer in your area. You may also order one online at ultralight-aircraft.com.

  2. Step 2

Verify that all the necessary parts are present. Compare it with the packing list. There will be a lot of parts and if any are missing you will be unable to complete the build, so it's well worth your time to be sure your kit is compete.

  3. Step 3

Watch the video multiple times that comes with your ultralight kit. You need to familiarize yourself with the ultralight build before you attempt it. Also be sure to read the manual from front to back to completely familiarize yourself with the build process and tools needed before you begin.

  4. Step 4

Put the ultralight wings together first. Start by attaching the rudder hinge assembly to the outboard wings. Position the wheels underneath the finished wings then fit the wings together.

  5. Step 5

Assemble the cage by following the instructions in the manual. Attach it to the wings and then secure all the bolts.

  6. Step 6

Mount the engine by carefully following the instructions. Make sure that everything is balanced so that your ultralight plane will fly correctly.

  7. Step 7

Install the instruments, seats, wheels, brake assemblies and other remaining parts. Be sure that you thoroughly understand the directions before attempting to install these electronic parts.
