Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Encourage your partner to go with you to your doctor visits, especially the important ones, such as the ultrasounds and tests, and encourage him to ask the doctor questions about your pregnancy.
Step2
Place his hand on your belly to feel his baby move about. Share your thoughts on how it feels to have a life growing inside you so he can feel included in the process.
Step3
Encourage Dad to talk to the baby when she is able to hear. This will ensure the beginning of the father/child bonding experience while you're still pregnant.
Step4
Allow Dad to be involved in decorating the nursery, and plan your baby shower as a couple's shower. Some dads may enjoy this, but others may not.
Step5
Discuss baby names. Consider names he likes; even if his grandma's name is Ethel, allow him to include it on the list.
Step6
Enroll in a childbirth class. You'll both learn about the pregnancy and birthing process. Attending breastfeeding classes together can also help him to feel more included.
Step7
Talk about your future as a family. Plan how you and he want to raise the baby, including discipline, diet and who will care for the baby after she is born. Encourage him to tell you about his feelings regarding the pregnancy and impending birth.
