Step 1
Watch for the figurines that you collect just about anywhere you shop. They are available in department stores, discount outlets and boutiques. Once you've decided on a style or specific kind of figurine, the fun is in the search.
-
Step 2
Visit working artists in their studios. Seeing your ceramic collectible molded and fired before you purchase it, gives the piece a little extra meaning.
-
Step 3
Attend art shows. Juried fairs will expose you to the top level or artisan because they have to be judged to a higher standard than those artists who can just buy a table at a fair. Many collectors plan their trips and vacations around the best art fairs in the country. You will begin to recognize the artists and follow their work.

Step 4
Join an archaeological dig at which you might find ceramic pieces. While not as readily accessible as stone and metal finds, ceramic is often found in Mexico and the southwest United States on scientific ventures.
-
Step 5
Offer to help neighbors and family members clean out their attics. Many collectibles are stashed away in places that haven't been touched in years. Ceramic holds up under most every circumstance and can be great finds. Estate sales are another great place to find some of the hidden ceramic treasures.
