How to Split Frames in Dreamweaver

If you want to create frames for your webpage, Dreamweaver makes it a very easy process. If you have created frames and you wish to split one frame into multiple frames, it's an even easier process. This process will save you the time from creating a whole new frameset within the frame you wish to split.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Dreamweaver. Open an existing file that already contains frames you would like to split, or start a new HTML document and choose the "Modify" menu. Then, point to "Frameset" and split your document by either creating frames to the left, right, up or down of your current workspace.

    • 2

Click with your mouse somewhere inside of the frame that you would like to split into at least two different frames.

    • 3

Choose the "Modify" menu, point to "Frameset" and then click on either "Split Frame Left," "Split Frame Right," "Split Frame Up" or "Split Frame Down." All of these commands will split the frame; they will just do them in different directions.

    • 4

Notice that you have split your current frame into two separate frames, signified by the gray frame border that now appears in the center of the frame you split.

    • 5

Split the frames further using the same method as above to create as many frame splits as you need in your document.

    • 6

Change the properties of your frames by using the "Properties" palette at the bottom of the screen to change the font settings and page properties within that frame.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also split a frame by pressing and holding the CTRL button on your keyboard as you drag on a frame border.
